What does Chat GPT know about the small town of Diso in Puglia, IT (where I live)? Over the weekend, I discovered the existence of SheetGPT, so I decided to use it to find out. It was an entertaining way to start my work week.
I could write many posts about this (and probably will to be honest). But I’ll start with my first prompt, “Generate a list of the top 10 reasons that Diso (LE), Italy, is a great place to live”. I’ve put the list in the comments if anyone is interested. As Diso is relatively unknown, this is a nice challenge to test Chat GPT on a niche topic.
Hallucination: Fake it until you make it
- “Beaches are never overcrowded.” ChatGTP has never been here in August. 😱
- “Diso is situated in the heart of wine country.” I love the wine here. Yet, I’ve rarely seen grapes grown for wine nearby, so that statement is misleading at best.
- “The city is well-connected…making it easy to explore.” I fully agree if it means by foot, with a bike, or with a car. However, I’m pretty sure that the (almost non-existent) public transport is what’s meant.
ChatGPT couldn’t come up with ten reasons, so it hallucinated these.
This experience confirmed that ChatGPT has become a fantastic tool for sparking inspiration and generating new ideas. It’s fascinating how it can help you explore different perspectives and stimulate your thinking process.
Yet, as with all data and data literacy topics, it’s still about the people. The output only has actual value if combined with personal experience.
